So, I've re-watched the first two Ghostbusters and loved the experience. I mean, re-watching the good ol' movies at home with some wine and delicious food... everybody loves that. It looks, though, that I've had a bit too much wine, since I also thought that it may be a good idea to give this disaster another chance. I mean, maybe I was just overreacted back in 2016? Maybe it's not THAT bad? Well, guess what? It is. It is THAT bad. It looks and feels like it was written by both crazy AND stupid feminist. Crazy and stupid feminist with no sense of style. an 80s icon reimagined quite creatively, and hilariously. i loved the female egon, and ladies would appreciate the eyecandy receptionist. all in all a fun reboot, with cute cameos by the surviving cast. read more

it was about as good as ripd, except i had no reason to give it the benefit of the doubt. perfunctory, under-written and over-improvised, it seemed also to be edited by someone who got nervous every time a gag started to work or a character started to feel too much like an actual character. read more

there were like... three or four times i laughed in the whole movie. i have no problem with paul feig, or any of the wonderful leads. i don't even have anything against the concept of remakes/reboots. the problem with ghostbusters 2016 is that it's just... not... funny. the original is a hilarious comedy about scientists who basically become blue-collar superheroes and it has amazing comedic timing, which is almost non-stop. but everything in this remake feels like first take improv. it's rapid-fire gags and jokes, but maybe 5% land, and of that amount even less are genuinely hilarious. most... read more

the film is truly at its best when it goes meta and pokes fun at its dealings with the numerous internet trolls. actually, the film as a whole feels very meta in an unintended way, with its ‘us against the world theme (namely, the new ghostbusters arent celebrated like the earlier guys, doing their thing mostly in the dark) bizarrely matching the reality. the way it ended made me feel like the whole cast and crew were embracing one another amidst all the hatred and hostility, which even moved me a little. is it as good/inventive/funny as paul feigs previous films, like spy or bridesmaids? no.... read more

I was on the edge originally about the idea of Ghostbusters being remade. For many reasons but mainly because remakes are pretty unnecessary and usually suck. So going into this that's how I thought I might feel. When we learned they were making it an all girl cast I had mixed emotions as many probably did. But when I heard who would be cast, I was pretty excited. I enjoy Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy quite a bit and little did I know I'd also learn to enjoy Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. My quick rating 6;1/10. Nostalgia aside I think this movie did OK on its own merits. It was an impossible task to live up to the original and I am sure many people who have reviewed this just dismissed it entirely for that simple reason. The only chance the movie really had was to be original which the makers intended to do by casting all female leads. Problem is; the movie itself was not original in the slightest.
