it's really a shame this movie was such a bomb. it's a shame for two reasons. 1) it's not that bad of a film at all and 2) i would love to see a sequel. poor taylor kitsch. he's a pretty decent actor and i would think he's rather good looking. this fellow canadien had a trifecta of bombs in 2012 that all but sank his career it seems. john carter, savages and battleship all but sunk his career. and it's a real shame as he is rather good in this movie and this movie itself is quite an enjoyable action thrill ride with top notch visuals, great world building and an engaging story. it's got a read

this movie lies within one of those mixed-genres which you either love or hate: fantasy-scifi-western. i was thoroughly entertained by the interplanetary hops of j.carter. granted it had its slow dull moments of complete sandstorms (think dune meets somewhere in time), but all in all the 3d fx didn't disappoint, and the "canine" sidekick drew lotsa laughs. what i loved most was the civil war veteran perspective - now i'm drawn to following burrough's original books (this series trumps tarzan any day) read

it is a really messy convoluted film. it was really pretty visually, but i was kinda lost through most of the first half of the film. they were saying a lot of mumbo jumbo and made up words and it just wasn't clear what was going on or what they were talking about. i definitely can understand the position of the actors when they are saying this gibberish and have no idea if it is going to click with the audience or not. i'm sure the feeling of being in the first star wars, lord of the rings, or harry potter feels a lot like being in john carter, dune, or chronicles of riddick, it is all just... read

john carter de marte. infumable bodrio de cine de aventuras y fantástico. aspirando a ser un blockbuster a base de efectos especiales, (no están mal), no es más que una historia plana con poco que destacar. read

john carter is a film that has too many ideas coming too fast to reel an audience in, and yet it feels uninspired and unoriginal at the same time. such is the curse of a latter day adaptation. "what's it all about, alfie?": based on the original pulp story from 1917(!), john carter features the charisma vacuum, taylor kitsch, as the former confederate soldier john carter. a sizable part of why this film doesn't work can be ascribed to the limitations of kitsch, who looks the part but just isn't up to making a selfish guy likeable and engaging (see wolverine: origins for further proof). by all... read

Indomitable Confederate captain gets transported from the post-Civil War America to Mars and he gets involved in a major fight for power. Disney's apparent gamble to adapt Edgar Rice Burroughs 11-books saga into the next "Star Wars" has a lot going for it - budget, eyepopping visuals and a tangible effort to give its simplistic, 1910's adventures a modern twist. Unfortunately, muddled narration, unfocused characters (and an awkward flash-back structure that only pays off in the final sequences) rarely allow any real entertainment. read

jesus wept. how can you spend this much money making a boring film? sometimes you can see where the money went. i have no idea on this. $250m for what? there was no spectacle or sense of amazement. the story dragged on and people did things for some reason or another. a waste of resources making this film and a waste of time watching it. read
