i like jim mickle. his first film was a great low budget indie and his two films after this were excellent with we are what we are being particularly good, amazing actually. this is his weakest film. it's not bad at all. great performances, great effects, pretty good story and script but unfortunately it is something we have seen way to many times. sometimes better and many times worse. still, if you like vampires and horror you should check this out. read more

film #28 of hoop-tober 2.0 stake land is a vampire film, but in truth it has more in common with the walking dead and other stalwarts of the zombie genre than the likes of dracula, twilight or even daybreakers. jim mickle's post-apocalyptic drama is a tale of survival in a world where, like romero's classics, mankind is the true monsters. and to its credit, the film is effective in invoking the style, mood and tone of the better zombie survival films out there. much of that has to do with the direction from mickle, who deftly mixes in drama with horror and action elements. he has a talented... read more
