"Only Sonic the Hedgehog could have a movie this bad"

It's fucking wild that I saw this movie right after seeing Chinatown. Prob means I have a more negative reaction to this movie than I otherwise would have. I found this much more obnoxious and annoying than the first movie much to my surprise since this film was received better.

The CGI for the sonic characters really bothered me in this movie as opposed to the other one and I'm not really sure why. I just feel like the combination of the weird fur and cartoony designs contrasted with live-action just created a really weird uncanny valley feeling for me. Why does Tails have such pronounced eyelashes? That shit bothered me throughout the whole movie, couldn't take my eyes off it. I feel at times their eyes look weird like the design was inconsistent or they fucked up the animation at points or something. The transition of music between scenes is almost always awkward, they always end songs in weird places or contrast 2 very different types of songs for 2 different emotions going on for a scene and the transition between them is always awkward since a song would just abruptly cut and then the next one starts without any space in between or any kind of fade out or any semblance of a transition. Just poorly done. They also use a lot of pop music, especially in the 1st half of the movie, which was really annoying to me. I find the references to real life things and movies Sonic makes plus his use of "slang" like "living rent free in his head" (referring to Eggman) in the movie to be really weird and awkward. Made me feel uncomfortable, just felt really unnatural. I don't think Idris Elba's voice matches Knuckles' design at all and found ut extremely distracting and off-putting. I found Eggman to be a bit better in this movie, found him amusing for about half of the time and annoying the other half. Wade has a couple funny moments but overall was way too childish and dumb. The hunour involving Knuckles I didn't find funny at all with the exception of the scene where he was trying to read the text messages which I find at least slightly funny.

All the wedding stuff was really not hitting for me, really just way too over the top and childish for my liking in addition to me just not caring about it at all, the stuff with James Marsden and everything on his side I found particularly just boring, cliche and dumb and it was much more disconnected from the Sonic stuff than it was in the first movie so it felt like a time filler. The charm of the movie worked less for me in this movie than the first one where I at least found some enjoyment in the interaction of Sonic with the real world and his relationship with James Marsden's character but in this movie, really wasn't feeling any bit of that charm at all besides maybe the first phone call scene after Sonic cleaned the house after trashing it. The Siberia stuff was really fucking weird. Sonic saying "Accroding to this map the first clue is in Siberia", absolutely broke me, I was dying at the notion of Sonic actually saying that. The bar scene just felt really awkward and the comedy with the translator was really weird and made no sense at all, like how was the translator fucking up so badly but reliably got Tails the information for plovinski???? I thought the plovinski stuff was at least kinda funny except for Sonic and Tails dancing, the guy was funny. "Only Sonic the Hedgehig can win a dance battle that epic", was another line that had me cracking up because of how stupid and ridiculous that is though I found Tails saying "Only Sonic the Heghehog [insert phrase here]" obnoxious very quickly. I also love how everything with the bar was completely pointless to the rest of the movie besides cementing the friendship between Sonic and Tails which could have easily been done on their way to the owl temple or from Sonic saving Tails' life. Hate that in the maze in the temple to get the emerald the computer said "In 30 ft turn left", and there was clearly no possible left path he could take. When Eggman took the emerald, the visual effects looked really bad, looked like he was in front of CG effects from the early 2000s. Thought the vocal effects they put on Eggman after getting the emerald was at least fun and creative, I liked that. I like how Sonic actually strains his body and is in more pain and more tired as the movie went along, thought that was a nice touch though I think the consequence of it should have been greater and explored more in the movie especially since it was supposed to be a whole onslaught of things happening to Sonic all at once and how that affected him in terms of how much he pushes himself and how much he has to deal with. If only the Safdie Brothers directed this movie. Anyway, just like the first movie, I find Agent Stone to be the best part of the movie, I'm delighted by his weirdness and obsession for Eggman and constantly trying to please him. I find the writing for that character and the acting to be fun and I enjoy it.

Now that Shadow is going to be part of the fold, I hope we get a live-action version of the US president looking wistfully at a picture of himself with sonic and shadow. That's all I want. I just wonder if we're going to get Rogue, Big the Cat, Blaze the Cat, Silver or the Omega robot in this continuity of Sonic. I feel like they might do some time travel stuff for the next movie to mix things up and have it be more sci-fi centric with the whole Shadow creation thing coming so we'll probably at least get Silver and I just want to see if they'll ever address Rogue at all and just commit to giving furries what they want.

Well yep, that's all I guess, Sonic summoned a Chilli dog from the sky with storm clouds and lightning, caught and ate it, and when summoning one for Knuckles, just let it fall on his face.
