dennings (geeky assistant) and elba (gatekeeper) shine in this multi-realmed sequel of the norse thunder god. the side characters are funny, and the vehicles zippy. loki's deceptive mastery is nicely executed, especially in the capt america segment. i enjoyed the virtual tour of london, but wish they covered the other 8 realms a little more. read more

thor: the dark world is one fun movie. yeah, it's not as good as the first one and yeah it's not as good as most of the marvel cinematic universe movies but it's still a mcu movie and it's well put together, well acted, well shot ettc. etc. etc. and really, a movie with chris hemsworth as thor and tom hiddleston as thor and featuring nathalie portman, anthony hopkins, renee russo, christopher eccelston and stellan skarsgard can't really be bad. it also features cool action, cool effects, great humour, a pretty solid romance and a neat if generic storyline. sounds like high praise which it is... read more

marvel is coming out of the gate strong in phase two than they did in the meatier portions of phase one. thor: the dark world, directed by alan taylor, is a better film than the first (which i also enjoyed quite a bit) in just about every way. now, this is not to say that the film is perfect; far from it. the damseling of jane foster continues and there is an unfortunate preponderance toward making the scientists overly wacky or jokey. but outside of those complaints this movie has a lot going for it. while jane is partially a plot device and damsel in distress, she is also made more integral... read more

for father's day, decided to rewatch the mcu's big father & sons trilogy. this viewing, i watched the films purely as sequels to each other, imagining i hadn't seen any other marvel movies. i also watched three fan-edits that attempted to add in deleted material and tighten up the films. i am well aware that most of the letterboxd community hates this movie but i'm here to tell you: dark world thor is best thor. yeah, i said it! i know i probably won't convince a single person of that, but here are a few of the great things about this movie: -the film opens with relatable humor. jane is read more

This movie gets sooo much shit and I really think it's undeserved. It's not the best MCU movie, agreed. But it's not terrible. The story is really cool in my opinion. The concept of the convergence is so fun and I love how all the realms were blending together.  Darcy is a blessing, too. I love having her in the movies and she was such a laugh in this one. Jane's great too, she's basically the hero of this movie - using her intelligence to take down the Dark Elves. MCU marathon part 8 frigga's funeral scene is still a beautiful, emotional scene and one of the better MCU moments. Not having Richard work in IT was a mistake. read more
