holy. fucking. shit. insanity served up on an imax screen and i loved it. i love that the mad max films are linked purely by the character of max. there's vague references to other things we've seen but there's no need to have seen them all to understand what's going on. everything you need to know is on screen and what visual treat it is. this is what michael bay thinks he is making. read

visually stunning if a few notches too grotesque for my liking. it felt like fast&furious, set in dune, with the epic carnage of a chinese war movie, which, with a one-armed charlize at the wheel, isn't necessarily a bad thing. the movie is badly named though, as max hardly seemed mad throughout the movie, and should probably have just be called 'worried max' read

what a lovely day. what a lovely day it is when george miller gets to release his uncompromising vision of mad max to the world. the mayhem. the insanity. the thrill. the manic energy. the wit. the pure joy. mad max: fury road is a cinematic accomplishment. all of the emotions and experiences you could hope for going into an action film are teased out of you throughout the glorious 2 hour runtime. the action choreography here is the real star. never does george miller lose clarity during a scene. i was keenly aware of what was going on throughout each of the action scenes. which, honestly, is... read

"what a lovely day" is mad max: fury road's most marketed phrase, but the one that most exemplifies it is "we are not things." this fourth film in the famous australian franchise is a $150 million arthouse post-apocalyptic spaghetti western, and a fabulous one at that. george miller is as good as he's ever been behind the camera with this intense experience that turns many elements of the action genre on its head. the acting is top-notch -- including from the likes of model-turned actresses rosie huntington-whiteley and riley keough -- and the story is refreshingly unpredictable. one of the... read

rewatch confirmed it for me: the hype is real. i know it's not fair to compare, and maybe part of this realisation is me not being that into the original trilogy (i only really like the first half hour of beyond thunderdome); but talk about unleashing your full potential in the most spectacular way possible. all but fast-forwarding through its first act, miller makes clear his intentions: it's full throttle from the get go, so keep up or get left behind. it's easy to be taken aback by this seemingly cheap sense of urgency, but as soon as you get a feel for furiosa and what she's trying to get... read

I don't know if it's blasphemy to say such a thing, and I probably need a few more viewings to be absolutely sure, but I think this may be my favorite Mad Max movie now.
I love the fact that it's so unrepentantly weird in places, whether it's the bad guys swigging breastmilk or crow people walking around on stilts. And the claims about the action scenes aren't underselling it. It's been a while since I've seen such beautifully orchestrated destruction on the screen without my brain telling me that half of it was designed by a guy on a computer.
The CGI that is used, is used really well. I... read

the friendship-forged-under-fire dynamic between max and furiosa is so amazingly effective, emotionally, that it pushes fury road well past the others in the franchise. the night scene, where max lays out his plan to go buy them some time; furiosa asks something to the effect of, "but what do we do if we're ready to go, and you aren't back?" the fact she even asks that shows that max has become a brother-in-arms to her already. it's small details and smart dialog that are the unsung heroes of fury road. every car crash is amazing, and the stunts are fantastic, (as well as the phenomenal read

okay google how do i become furiosa's girlfriend over-the-top cheesy action car movie but with unusually great production values. literally everything about this film is really well made - shot composition, set design, costumes, blend of practical and digital effects, environmental storytelling. i won't list everything i liked because, quite frankly, i can't be bothered but let's just say it's exactly the quality stuff you'd expect from the director of happy feet and the babe - pig in the city. i really enjoyed post-apocalyptic nestle as a villain. but in the end, it remains a cheesy (but read

Can you say "cut to the chase" when there's not much else to cut from? George Miller's belated coming back to the well that made his fortune in the 1980s provides wall-to-wall action and it proves as rousing, loud and relentless as it should be. Most importantly, it shows a unique visual style that comes as a welcome change among too many expendable summer blockbusters. While any temptation of subtlety ends up as roadkill, "Fury Road" is a wildly entertaining (and ultimately exhausting) ride that authoritatively claims back both "fast" and "furious" to the franchise they belong to. read

You know, when I first saw this movie two days ago, I logged it on my letterboxd as a 4/5. But you know what, fuck it, it is a 5/5 to me. Is it perfect? Not really, but as far as action movies go? It doesn't get much better than this.
I don't know a thing about the Mad Max franchise. All I remember from the first three movies is that they somehow involve Mel Gibson, Tina Turner and some sort of thunderdome (it may be just one of them, I really don't know). I remember the commercials on TV for late night broadcasts on Brazilian TV that were way past my bedtime and this is it. Quite frankly, I... read

My quick rating - 8;3/10. There really is no reason for a long winded review. Too many great things about this movie to point out. The way that "Max" is used was done so well to make the main character seem as though he isn't the focus. Furiousa (Charlize Theron) was astounding in her role as the heavy (strange; huh?). The movie itself starts off in high gear and rarely lets up to allow us lucky viewers a moment to catch our breath. Visually stunning in a very dark way such as the others were : A world were gas=gold and water is a commodity. Violence is non-important; only survival is. So read

I got a tan just watching this.
An insanely fast past action thriller set in a lurid, bright yellow desert. I've watched a lot of movies recently and thought "imagine watching this in the cinema" watching Fury Road almost made me feel like I was back there. Stunning, gripping, impeccably scored and edited. A strong contender for best action movie of the 2010s. read

Awesome and Absolutely STUNNING! Amazing wide shots, heart-stopping car stunts, amazing effects, superb acting, sick music, best editing, wow costume, mad plot, and high-octane intensity. This is a film you wish to watch again and again. Mad Max: Fury Road is one of my top ten FILMS OF ALL TIME.
Trivia:
Over eighty percent of the effects seen in the film are practical effects, including stunts, make-up, and sets. CGI was used sparingly, mainly to enhance the Namibian landscape, remove stunt rigging, and for Imperator Furiosa's (Charlize Theron) left arm, which is a prosthetic read
