the rogue cut certainly doesn't add much to the film. it's nice to see rogue but it's a bit pointless really. the film wasn't changed dramatically by her inclusion or exclusion. if you liked the original cut of this then you'll enjoy this. it changes nothing. read more

the x-men franchise has been fighting for its credibility for almost a decade now. the fox-produced marvel franchise was one of the first to truly get superhero films right in this current "golden age" of the genre with the bryan singer-directed first two entries, but x-men: the last stand badly lost its way and x-men origins: wolverine dragged the whole thing even further down. ground was made up by matthew vaughn's x-men: first class but to truly make its way back, fox had to turn to the man who got them off on the right foot in the first place in singer. x-men: days of future past read more

this is one of the reasons i am not stoked about the x-men joining the mcu. this is a distinct film that feels completely different then all the samey marvel movies. the next x-men movie will be a standard mcu flick and while i'm sure it will be perfectly enjoyable, it won't have a distinct and separate personality like the fox x-men movies had when they were good (and i will admit, they usually weren't). read more

it just hit me today, this being maybe the third time i've seen this one, that it's not really an action/adventure flick. it's a sci-fi/thriller. there's definitely shades of the terminator here. robots, a devastating post-apocalyptic future, time travel, the strong female lead trying to assassinate the creator of the robots (miles dyson/bolivar trask) etc. etc. i liked it more now than i ever did before. it's still not my ideal x-men movie, but! at least wolverine doesn't overshadow everyone else by single-handedly saving the day. that counts for a lot in my book. as i've said before,... read more

i'm gonna put it out there: this is the best x-men film. "what's it all about, alfie?": the original x-men film followed on the heels of blade to prove that yes, marvel could make comic book movies that people would take seriously. patrick stewart as prof. x and ian mckellen as magneto had such chemistry that you could immediately see why people would be drawn to either side. the surprise discovery though was hugh jackman as wolverine, who studios would unfortunately decide to focus on too much from there on. we got hints of his origin in the excellent sequel, x-2, then he took over the read more

this was a phenomenal entry in the x-men movie series! i really enjoyed how the movie had a nice blend of a variety of different genres: sci-fi, action, comedy, drama, & thriller. i really enjoyed the plot and thought it was craftily interwoven with the rest of the entries in the series. even though it had been a while since i had seen some of them, they "overviewed" the necessary previous story lines just the right amount. if you're a fan of the other movies in the x-men series particularly, or if you just enjoy superhero flicks, this definitely is not a title to miss! read more

This film is simply amazing. I literally wasn't bored for even a second, it kept me entertained all throughout the whole thing and I can't say it really has flaws. The plot was amazingly written and the execution did it justice. The cast for X-men has always been great, so that goes for this film too. read more

Once again, the best part of an X-Men film is when they break Magneto out of jail. Much more ambitious and upscaled compared to it's predecessor but not sure it actually holds up quite as well, but considering how much is going on here, it's a fun time and could have definitely been a lot messier. A time travelling X-Men movie is always going to have it's fair share of cameo antics and "Hey, it's the 70's!" gags but the fan-service never really outstays it's welcome.
