i have now seen five film's by denis villeneuve and each one is completely different to the last one. that is the sign of a great filmmaker; when there are signs and motives and visual cues that all signal a style and director but the plots, the genres, the feelings gives are all varied and unique. sicario (like his other films) is so different to what he has done before (and after) and is not only one of the best thrillers of all time but one of the best films of 2015 (2nd best actually). sometimes when you watch a film you can figure out the whole plot. sometimes you can figure out part of... read more

i thought this was a solid one-off story. intriguing and captivating with a simplistic plot that seems complicated on the surface. my only gripe would be the confusion the movie seemed to have on who was actually the more interesting character to follow. read more

thriller thursdays #2 watched this on 4k blu-ray. sharp image! i guess i'm working backwards through villenueve's filmography (his first movie i watched was blade runner: 2049 and second film was arrival). he's definitely a great director, for visuals and storytelling. his movies just breeze by for me. and helping him out in visuals is roger deakins, the goat dp. sicario is a great tense thriller that's almost in the amazing film territory for me. read more

a very intense thriller with the villeneuve stamp, perhaps somewhat more crude than other films that had already dealt with this subject. what i liked least is that some of the characters are mere ornaments. i like that he has introduced the presence of a woman to limit the excess testosterone so typical of this type of thrillers. although i adore emily blunt as an actress i believe that in this film she has not lived up to her character. read more

This was so good, like every movie I've seen by Denis Villeneuve has been great stuff and this was no different. Villeneuve's visual storytelling with a visceral Tayler Sheridan script and Roger Deakins as the cinematographer all just clicked into something special. All the actors do great at conveying their part in the story, I just was blown away by how good everyone was. There was such a good build of sustain of tension in certain parts in the beginning/end that synced so well with the score, it just all felt so complimentary. This one by the director of "Prisoners" and "Enemy" is really well done. Emily Blunt plays her role as an FBI agent that is recruited to work with a government task force working on the border in the war against drugs. She is aided by Josh Brolin and the mysterious Benecio Del Toro. All 3 main stars are really good and the movie certainly has enough tension to keep you on the edge of your seat where basically anything can happen at anytime. Good visually also this movie is definitely worth watching. read more
