while i'll readily agree that raiders' is the superior film, my personal preference has always erred towards this one. it has a number of aspects to it that i especially enjoy in contrast to raiders'. one, temple of doom actually has a legitimately villainous bad guy in mola ram. raiders' had a smarmy frenchman and some low ranking nazi thugs. nazis in general are vile, but in raiders they are effective because of what we know about them in real historical context. the actual nazi characters in the movie are kind of just... dicks. whereas mola ram and the kali-worshipping thuggee cult read more

This one is way more over-the-top than it's predecessor and it does work... Most of the time. It does make for an enjoyable watch. Loved the sequence in the temple. That was great and fun to watch. I found the thirds act to be strong. Especially the mine cart scene. However, I did dislike Willie. I found her to be an annoying character, even though I would probably react the same way if we're being honest. A replacement for Marion as Indy's love interest, where Marion was actually a bad-ass.
