boring! that's what i thought of this movie when i first saw it. surprisingly i never saw it in theatres (and for the life of me i cannot find a reason why) so my first and only viewing, up until today, had been on television. and it bored me stiff,;it's like they took all the fun out of the first film and left you with all the boring parts. well i just watched it again and i was wrong. very wrong. so wrong in fact, that i now think this film, batman returns, is a better film than it's predecessor, batman. it's a better acted movie, it's a better scripted movie (sort of), it's a better shot... read more

substantially it's still unbalanced, but a huge step-up from the previous one in tone, timing, and aesthetic. the only thing i have to say, is that in real life (what am i doing) the penguin would've been elected even after batman (who feels out of place for the entirety of the movie) exposes his lies in front of the people of gotham. read more

batman returns could very well be my new alien³. a movie i kind of hated for a long time until eventually i come around on it. my dislike for this movie's noxious gross streak and erotic stylings was nothing compared to my contempt for the fact it's more of a tim burton movie than it is a batman movie. i haven't changed my stance on any of that, but maybe the angle i've been viewing it from has shifted. i watched some of the making of on the blu ray last night, and screenwriter daniel waters mentioned that neither him nor burton ever had a discussion about "what would fans think?" or "what... read more

Incredibly bizarre, campy, horny. Just what Batman should be! I was really into this movie as a kid and I just know it permanently altered my development. I love how it's essentially a movie with three leads and Batman isn't even the most prominent. Just movie about a trio of freaks running around and badly coping with their issues. read more
