wow, this made me squirm more than any non-horror movie ever has. it is so uncomfortable to watch them tear each other apart and you feel so sorry for that young couple who get unwillingly pulled into the nightmare that is george and martha's marriage. this is one of the best written films i have ever seen with biting dialogue that makes it absolutely riveting even though it is just people standing around and talking for two hours. it also features the best overall acting i've ever seen with all four actors being so close to perfect in their roles. this is one of the few films to be oscar read more

I finally got around to catching up with another Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor starrer with this one. taken from the stage play by Edward Albee. Burton and Taylor are very good supported by George Segal and Sandy Dennis. There is quite a lot of dialogue between the 4 actors/actresses so its one of those movies that one has to pay attention to. The running time is quite long but the time did seem to go quickly as I became involved in the ups and downs of Martha and Georges relationship. read more

Elizabeth Taylor proves categorically that she was a truly great actress. Her Oscar-winning performance as the psychologically tormented Martha is one of the greatest performances in the history of cinema. Taylor's imperceptible shifting from sadism to tenderness, from bullying condescension to exhausted vulnerability, is a masterclass in character building. Martha is a truly monstrous character, and yet Taylor is able to imbue... read more
