i watched this immediately after watching the original and this is one of the worst and most unnecessary remakes i have ever seen. they repeated the exact plot from the original and reused extensive dialogue. the only notable narrative changes were the elimination or reduction of some supporting characters and the shortening of the main characters' arcs. neither of these changes improves the film, but it does reduce the amount of story that needs to be told. somehow, this results in the film being a full hour longer. they are relying very heavily on the audience not being familiar with the... read more

There are apparently a couple of versions of this film with the film length and I chose to watch the 3 hour one which in the end I could of got just about as much out of the 2 and a half hour version. It was slow in parts to watch and just went on too long. I was surprised that up to 10 of Hollywood's biggest actors at that time had turned down the role that James Mason finally played. I thought Judy Garland didn't look well in this, I know at the time she was struggling from personal issues and this was her last film for some years. read more

ha nacido una estrella, de george cukor. pues esta película tiene todos los ingredientes para gustar porque tiene de todo. la joven cenicienta que con sus virtudes consigue fama y reconocimiento en hollywood. por otro lado, presenciamos el proceso inverso, en un gran james mason, que con su adicción al alcohol pasará de la cima a lo más bajo. también vemos el mundo por detrás de las bambalinas del mundo de hollywood: traiciones, productores, periodistas, premios,... si a todo esto añadimos unos buenos numeros musicales y una maravillosa fotografía con colores muy vivos, en especial los rojos... read more
