Crime, Thriller

though unsurprising, it's a crying shame that widows isn't nominated for a single oscar at this year's upcoming academy awards. a whip-smart and timely heist thriller with more brains and style than any crime movie i've seen in quite a while, widows brings together a phenomenal cast for a cinematic treat you'll want to revisit. read more

great performances and intriguing directing. however, needed to go through a few more rounds of editing to tighten the story. it doesnt start to get interesting until the third act. also, i feel like we were robbed of a moment of decision with violas character but instead she just shows up ready with a plan. not to mention, the big reveal and ultimate culmination of that reveal felt tact on to the needs of the story. read more

this films tries to do so much that it barely succeeds in any of it. there are so many story threads and characters that none are properly developed. there is a heist movie and a chicago political drama mushed together and neither one was able to really draw me in. the only character that has any real development was elizabeth debecki's alice, the rest of the characters are one note, which is a shame because there are a lot of really great actors playing them. what is the point of casting carrie coon and jacki weaver if you are only going to give them a couple lines of dialogue and then read more

—this is my brother. jatemme. —love you too.this is an absolutely brilliant film and this ensemble cast is the coolest i've seen in years. just... amazing. trivia: olivia, the small white pup from this film, is the same pup that appeared in “game night” and “insatiable.” i would die for her. read more

just another heist movie but with a lot of actors, not good movie, as for the actors: michelle rodriguez - wonderful act, as always. viola davis - awful performance, was supposed to lead the female cast but didnt deliver, i didnt connect to her grief. colin farrell - i missed him in movies, the only one that was good. and liam - i wanted to see more of him read more

The wives of a gang of robbers who were wiped out during a botched hold-up are forced to follow their criminal steps in order to survive. Adapted from a 1983 British TV mini-series, "Widows" is a heist movie made as if it was not a genre film: satisfyingly full-fleshed characters, realistic settings and a timely release in the wake of the #metoo movement, all conjure to effectively bait viewers' involvement - so that by the time the most unlikely plot twists start piling up they're in for the whole ride. read more

Despite a great cast in this movie I found it all a bit mixed up and confusing. I don't mind movies going back in time but there was so much that it was hard to work out which was present. All the Actors/Actresses were fine but Viola Davis stood up hence her being up for some awards. The action was frequent enough to keep action fans happy and the camera work was pretty good. At the end of the day its worth a look but there are better similar themed movies out there. read more

A solid film story-telling and acting-wise but it didn't really entertain me much. It's the kind of movie I appreciate but wouldn't watch again for fun. My excitement for this movie peaked when I learned that Gillian Flynn was involved. I loved the 3 books of hers that I read and she did the screenplay for Widows. Standout parts of the movie for me were the plot twist, the well thought out foreshadowing and the dog (lol). I didn't particularly love any of the characters and the politics plot was very depressing in its gritty realism. Not exactly a fun badass movie but a cynical crapsack world... read more
