Code 8 is, of course, derivative drawing from several lineages such as the X-Men and particularly The Gifted. From this it pulls an original well-crafted script based on the core of a boy trying to save his mother (Kari Matchett).

Connor (Robbie Amell) is presented with credible dilemmas such as criminality, killing and trade-offs between those he cares for. There are minimal effects due to the budget, but this is not a problem and not having the CGI crutch may be the reason the script is so well written. Not the best movie ever, nonetheless an enjoyable watch.
