There's definitely plot and story issues, and it, on a storytelling level is nowhere close to Pixar at their peak but the animation was gorgeous, cast was great (Seth Rogen and Jack Black in particular) and this knew it just had to be fun without trying too hard and imo certain achieved that. 7/10, may probably rewatch it again. read more

I'm convinced the only reason this movie is enjoyable was because Shigeru Miyamoto called Chris Meledandri's phone every morning of production and assured him that if the film flopped, he would de-bone him by hand. It's pretty standard, honestly? Visually gorgeous, but I wouldn't expect any less from a joint Nintendo production, really. Saying a modern animated film "looks pretty" is hardly a compliment. This was a fun watch, not the best storyline, but it's worth a rewatch. The environments in the movie are absolutely gorgeous. The character models are adorable, especially Mario and Luigi's. It fits their designs perfectly. The scenes with Mario and Luigi are cute, Peach is pretty cool, and I love Bowser's is funny, badass guy -and also hot-. I don't know much about Mario so I probably missed some Easter Eggs. read more

It's been a while since I watched a movie that I went into purely just to have a fun time, and I'm really happy with this one. It's not the deepest thing in the world (If you expected as much I think you need to sort out your priorities) But especially as a fan of the Mario series as a whole, this movie is a joy.
