Pontypool

pontypool is a very enjoyable horror canadian horror flick with the always watchable stephen mchattie. it's kind of a zombie film. it's kind of a virus film. it's very interesting. it doesn't succeed in everything it tries to do but it is rather effective and sort of original. it takes place in very few locations and leaves lots to the imagination. the only problem with this film (well the main and biggest problem) is that not much happens in the film. not enough at least. while you will be entertained a lot of the film is talking or scenes that kind of repeat over and over. even still, it's... read more

film #20 of hoop-tober 2.0 it loses its way in its final moments, but pontypool is a unique and thrilling take on the infection horror film. stephen mchattie, lisa houle and georgina reilly make for a fantastic trio in this film, which almost entirely takes place in a canadian radio station as a virus of violence becomes communicable through language. bruce mcdonald clearly shot the film on a low budget, but by confining it to such a small space he's able to put that low budget to great use. the script by tony burgess (based on his own novel) has some great things to say about conversation... read more

i fucking love this movie. so wildly effective and unique. if you haven't seen it, go in as blind as possible. very cool, very creepy and unnerving. one of my favorite horror movies of all time. read more
