Some moments weaken 1917, especially the slightly forced coincidences, such as the plane falling exactly in the quadrant of the incumbents, the occasional help from a caravan that passes by at the exact moment that the protagonist needs a ride, and a child who needs milk to survive. However, these small slips are not enough to scratch the potent experience of accompanying young people vehemently embracing an almost impossible task. read more

comparing 1917 to video games is an insult to the medium, at least games can be exciting even the likes of david cage has more going on. the only scene the gimmick works on is the one that you all seen in the behind the scenes footage. just look at the two war levels of death stranding even without the wonderful acting from mads mikkelsen in them which doesn't have the camera spin back and forth in a circle like a broken nintendo switch joy cons. most of what people would call memorable shots were more or less was already done in kubrick's paths of glory, just how many of these loud noise read more

as someone who loves (good) movies i was totally hooked by the actors performances, the cinematography / pictures (e.g. when he approaches the burning house) and of course the one-shot technique. i cannot imagine how anyone can plan a shot so elaborated that it is possible to keep the camera rolling for that amount of time in an action oriented movie (i would imagine you can film something like "waiting for godot" more easily than this one). for what it's worth this one is a hell of a piece of great modern cinema!!! read more

all right, let's get the elephant out of the room: photography and editing. (chef's kiss). magnificent. i love how it all came together, the way they recorded everything to make it look like a single sequence (which is actually two, but what else gives, it's still great), the way the simple plot and storytelling all enhance the experience of the war, making it all so much immersive and eerie, and the acting of the two main characters, but especially george mckay, whom with we spend most of the time. you can really feel for him, seeing how he deals with the massive situation he's trapped in.... read more

This is a really, really good movie. It's so well-made; the cinematography (especially the one-shot stuff) and the sound are incredible. It can be a little slow, but that's just what's going to happen with a movie designed to take place in one-shot. The plot also has some big coincidences (the milk??) During WWI, two British soldiers are charged with crossing the seemingly abandoned enemy lines to prevent a fellow battalion from falling in a trap. 1917 it's so good in the editing and seemingly single shot technique, what can I say it got an Oscar for it so that's seals the lid. It's that movie you put on for the while family and at the end no one's bored everyone thinks the time was worth it and you get family points for it just saying it's difficult to love this movie on a personal level like have this in your heart cos it's just pure cinema and you'll love just for that read more

Another gorgeous war movie, kinda similar to Dunkirk. I went in expecting a spectacle and that's what I got. I have zero complaints about this movie, the acting was flawless but the sets (should I even call them that?) and the cinematography are the real stars of the show here. Highly recommend seeing this on a big screen with loud speakers because this movie almost feels like an interactive thrill ride at points. I think the closest film experience I can compare it to is Gravity. They both follow one, super-determined individual that runs into one disaster after another and it's a miracle... read more

Got a fancy new Dolby Atmos soundbar, picked this movie as the first full watch with it. And...*chef's kiss* it's like I've never really heard this movie before - I didn't get to catch it in theaters and only heard it on the built-in speakers on my TV. Incredible cinematography. This film took one objective and ran with it, literally, across France. The score, although beautiful, was distracting during a couple of scenes (one in particular).
