A Lesson for the Apocalypse: One should never venture into an unfamiliar city in an attempt to save a few miles on the road. In a film, at least, it is a guarantee that an ambush lies in wait. I find the transition between Episode 3 and Episode 4 particularly enchanting, with Joel and Ellie driving their car. The unsightly vehicle they discover at Bill and Frank's house is remarkable, and for Ellie, who has never been in a car before, it feels like being in a spaceship. The road-movie segment is also captivating, with the remnants of civilization in the background, accompanied by Hank Williams' music.

This is not a new concept, as it has been depicted in numerous films and television series before, and they are considered to be cinematic classics. However, they are classics for a reason. For me, being on the road evokes so many different emotions and it is always a delight to see it portrayed well.

And then there is the arrival in Kansas City, another cinematic classic with a flashing red alert! If one decides to detour around a blocked area, it might be a bad idea. It is there for a reason. Another lesson from Episode 4, applicable to any era, including the present, is historical: organize a resistance movement, as we do not want to be oppressed. The first thing a victorious movement does is to immediately start oppressing others.

We have seen this with the FARC in Colombia, the IRA in Ireland, and in dozens or even hundreds of other cases. How easily a legitimate political movement can quickly turn into a militia. The movement that overthrew the FEDRA in Kansas City, ended the quarantine zone, and is led by the always excellent Melanie Lynskey as Katherin. This is nothing more than a militia, and a violent one at that.

Katherin is in the phase of Robespierre's terror, post-French Revolution. The Bastille has fallen, and now she wants to dehumanize. She wants to find all the culprits for everything and anything and punish them with death in tribunals that last about a minute. Then, she looks and decides. And at the center of it all is a mysterious figure, who is only talked about, but not yet known: Henry. Who is Henry?

With Ellie and Joel's arrival in Kansas City, Katherin now has another prey to whet her bloodthirst. I, for one, have seen the urban combat scenario in post-apocalyptic situations so many times that this episode may not have given me the sense of novelty that the others have so far. However, I found the entire sequence of their escape, the ambush, the car accident (they lost the car, they had just gotten it), and the way they face their attackers, to be quite suffocating.

The character Ellie from The Last of Us, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, embodies a vivacity that I hold dear, despite having only viewed gameplay footage and never having actually played the game. Despite some criticisms of her being irresponsible and disobedient, it must be remembered that 14 years of age is not an age synonymous with responsibility. Adolescence can have a profound impact on one's life, even in dire circumstances. Ellie is a person brimming with vitality and a love of life, even in a devastated world teeming with maleficent individuals. She refuses to be defeated and is always ready to seek adventure, curiosity, and interest in the world around her.

In this instalment, an air of terror pervades as the protagonists are aware that they are being pursued and are unfamiliar with the terrain. They must seek refuge and locate a secure location, yet even in this tense situation, there are moments of levity and jocularity. A character by the name of Ellie is depicted as a source of hope, not only due to her immunity to the virus but also for her ability to find joy and beauty in any given circumstance. She is portrayed as embodying the imagination and the very essence of humanity. The episode concludes with a gun pointed towards the cast, leaving the identity of the wielder a mystery.
