Horrifying yet fascinating.
Overall good documentary but it feels like so much more could be said, maybe could have done with two more episodes: one giving the respect the victims deserved, and another dwelling more on the killer's psyche.

(I should have written my thoughts down while watching this because I'm just taken aback by it all and brain fogged)

How can someone dwell into so much evil? He just couldn't control himself! He just couldn't stop! On occasion we actually went into a killing frenzy!
This inevitably raises the question of free will. Whatever theories for the causes or reasons for it all, at the of the day there's just something wrong with his brain, missing circuitry or off switch. And the documentary did mention that. I guess some butterfly effect kicks in and then he just can't escape the sand pit after inside. Another example was his blinding and self defeating narcissism and control paranoia in representing himself in court, just to make himself the center of attention and get approval from others.
Fascinating how he dodged and eluded police so many times. But those were different times. It's a good thing that nowadays there is the technology that would very quickly detect and stop anyone doing that.
Very surprised with the whole bite marks forensics which has been debunked as being junk science. In this case it was right, but it just proves the dangers of bloodthirst in wanting to convict people that are actually innocent. And it's a fact this has happened in the past regarding other types of technical analysis.
Also interesting was the difference in composure between police and journalists vs the mob celebrating his death.
Can't agree with the whole profiling thing, with the "oh he was quiet or he was an outcast" as nowadays many are like that, life in big metropolitan areas and the internet has changed people. An example of that failed attempt at pigeon holing was when Ted tried to pull another of his tricks and mentioned pornography, in which an inspector said it doesn't make sense because many other people consume it too.
So many shocking things in this series. The "cherry on top" might have been the getting his wife pregnant while he was in prison and the years later happy family photo. His wife was a murderer groupie. But how did their child grow up to be I wonder.

(From an IMDb review:)
And to say that some of his statements are fascinating is a major understatement. For example, conjecturing as to the origins of the murderer's psychopathy, he states, "perhaps this person hoped that through violence, through this violent series of acts, with every murder leaving a person of this type hungry. Unfulfilled. But also leave him with the obviously irrational belief that the next time he did it he would be fulfilled." Speaking of the killer's attitude to women, he states, "women are merchandise. From the pornographic to Playboy right on up to the evening news. So there is no denying the sexual component. However, sex has significance only in the context of a much broader scheme of things. That is, possession, control, violence." Concerning the killer's sexual urges, he states, "the early manifestations of this condition, which is an interest concerning sexual images, your standard fare that you'd see in the movie house or in Playboy magazine. The interest becomes skewed toward a more specialised literature, some of it pretty grotesque, which would preoccupy him more and more. It would reach a point where the anger, the frustration, the anxiety, the poor self-image, feeling cheated, wronged, insecure, he decides upon young attractive women being his victims."
